Teenagers counselling

I work with teenagers who are aged 13 to 17 (once you turn 18, you can see me as an adult).

Sessions are generally just you and me, however I do invite your parents to the first session. This is so I can hear from all of you at once about what is going on and how I might help you.

After that, it will mostly be you and me unless you want your parents to come along. At the end of each session, we will discuss what to share with your parents and do so together at the end of that session, or at a future session.

Some of the things I can help you with are as follows:

  • Anxiety

  • Low mood or depression

  • Friendships

  • Not wanting to go to school

  • Life changes such as moving house/school,
    or going into high school

  • Living with an illness

  • Anger

  • ADHD

  • Death of a loved one

  • Family relationships (within limits as sometimes
family therapy is best suited for this).

What do we do in session?

There is some talking, however there is always an activity of some kind as well. This could be watching a video, filling in a worksheet, an art activity or sometimes random things like popping bubble wrap.

I will always let you know what we are going to do beforehand and get your permission. If there is something you don’t want to do, then we don’t do it.

How do we do activities online?

If you are unable to see me in-person in Newcastle, we can do sessions online via Zoom. I have a range of activities that can be done over Zoom using the Whiteboard and other collaborative tools. For this reason, it is best if you can use Zoom on a laptop or computer as it tends to work better on these than on a mobile device.

For parents of teenagers

The above information gives you an idea of how I will work with your teenage child.

It is expected that at least one parent is available for the first session (both if possible), and one parent is available towards the end of each session to share any relevant information (with your child’s permission and with them present).

Session info

Sessions are 50 minutes in length and are either in-person or online via Zoom.

Fees

$160 for a 50 minute session.

Bookings

Before booking in, I like to have a 10-15 minute complimentary intake phone call with one or both parents of the teenager. This is to ensure I am the right fit for your child, to answer any questions, explain and begin the process, and to book the first session if you decide to go ahead.

You can phone, text or email me to make a time. Or book a 10-15 minute complimentary intake phone call.
