Modalities
I use a person-centred and collaborative approach in that I work closely with you to clarify your counselling goals and we work towards these together.
I will invite you to explore varying ways of thinking, feeling, seeing, being and responding while always checking in and being guided by you.
The main modalities I use are:
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
This is experiential in nature where you learn different ways of responding to difficult thoughts, feelings and situations with the aim of acceptance and committed action. It allows for a natural change process and incorporates activities around values, flexible thinking, goal setting and tapping in to the observing self. While talking is a component, it also draws on mindfulness and other visualisation exercises, as well as using visual diagrams, videos, metaphors and the occasional worksheet.
Expressive therapies
I incorporate expressive therapies as they awaken the sub conscious mind and often allow for more direct and deeper self-awareness. They also work extremely well with ACT, and can be beneficial to people who have a more creative, tactile or intuitive way of perceiving.
Activities include using therapeutic cards, guided visualisations, using symbols and imagery, sand tray therapy, art and movement.
Session info
All sessions are 50 minutes in length and are in-person or online via Zoom. Phone consultations are also available if Zoom isn’t possible.
While face-to-face sessions are preferable for using expressive therapies, there are quite a number of creative activities able to be done online via Zoom. Primarily, this is through sharing the whiteboard and other collaborative resources.
Fees
$160 for a 50 minute session.
